Malvern Instruments

Malvern Instruments makes laser diffraction-based particle size analyzers for characterizing solids, liquids, slurries and aerosols, as well as laboratory instruments that combine zeta potential and submicron particle size measurement for analysis of suspensions and emulsions. New products that employ ultrasound or backscattered laser light now enable the direct measurement of particle size in emulsions and suspensions at working concentrations. Malvern also makes laser diffraction-based systems for on-line measurement of dry powder particle size. Malvern has also aquired Bohlin Instruments, a major developer and manufacturer of rheology measurement systems.

Farfield Scientific

In the current post-genomic era the science of proteomics has developed into an important scientific discipline. One experimental problem in the field of proteomics, however, is the lack of sufficiently sensitive analytical tools to probe the structure, function, behaviour, and molecular interactions of peptides and proteins. Farfield Instruments has developed a new analytical technique based on the use of dual evanescent wave laser interferometry for use in studying protein behaviour. This methodology for optically interrogating protein interactions in real time provides information on the density, dimensionality and orientation of proteins bound to the surface of an optical sensor.

Micro Materials Ltd.

Micro Materials Ltd. was formed in 1988 with the aim of becoming the world leader in development, manufacture and marketing of nanomechanical testing instruments for research and quality assurance. Their products have evolved through many stages from the original design based on a prototype at the University of Lancaster, UK, into the current, fully-automated, highly versatile instruments. At Micro Materials, our highly specialised scientists and engineers take particular pride in their ability to solve complex problems related to specific customer needs and applications. This responsive and flexible approach has earned us an enviable reputation for strong customer relations and for products designed to satisfy our customers& requirements. Our pioneering approach has led to two recent world-firsts - we have developed: -The first commercial nanoscale impact tester, for erosive wear, toughness and contact fatigue. -The first commercial high temperature nanoindentation stage, capable of reaching temperatures over 500 degress Celcius.

Optimet

Conoscopic Holography is a simple implementation of a particular type of polarized light interference process based on crystal optics. In the basic interference set-up, a point of light is projected on a diffuse object. This point creates a light point, which diffuses light in every direction. In a Conoscopic system a complete solid angle of the diffused light is analyzed by the system. The measurement process retrieves the distance of the light point from a fixed reference plane.
